As 2024 wraps up, I’ve been reflecting on my favourite books that I've read this year. Trying to narrow it down to a list of 10 was incredibly difficult (I’ve read over 100 books this year and so many were brilliant!). Each of these were special and unique in their own way, some made me laugh, some made me cry, others made me reflect and think deeply about the world around me. (Amazon Affiliate Links)
beautifully written, so eloquent, witty, and insightful. It really encapsulates the art of resilience and living well whatever the circumstances.
This was an emotional rollercoaster that I had to take in small, digestible chunks. It’s heartfelt, devastating, raw, and inspiring in equal measure.
I love Backman's writing and his recent novella didn't disappoint. Beautifully clever, funny, and poignant.
This came highly recommended and it proved to be a fascinating deep dive into the mind and our ability to make decisions. Very insightful and offered much to take away and reflect on.
I did not want this book to end, I was completely invested in the characters and the sweeping, heartwarming tale of love and friendship. The writing was strikingly vivid and enticing. Reading this was like a hug in book form.
Sharp, contemporary, and thought-provoking, with much to say about the way we use, interact with, and are influenced by social media. I read this when the riots were happening in the summer and it seemed very apt and timely.
Equal parts humorous and heartbreaking, this book was a powerful reminder of the importance of human connection and kindness.
In documenting how far women's sport has come, this book was uplifting and encouraging but also somewhat frustrating and disappointing in how far it still has to go.
I first read this as a teenager and re-reading it recently was a completely different experience. It’s far deeper and more thought-provoking than the horror film stereotypes my memory had been clouded by.
A wonderful story that is hauntingly beautiful and devastating, with memorable characters and a deft portrayal of kindness against all odds.
I re-read this book every year, it's truly beautifully written and illustrated, full of wisdom and kindness. It also makes a great gift and many of my previous colleagues have received this as a present from me at some point.
I'd been holding off reading this as I was worried that a main character might be killed off. No spoilers here but this was probably my favourite book of The Thursday Murder Club series so far. Since finishing it I've downloaded and listened to all four of the books in the series as audiobooks which I would highly recommend, listening back to these stories I really noticed some additional details that I'd forgotten from the earlier books.
